Some days I’m tired. Sometimes my kids are sick. I have days when most of my morning is spent outside the home. Many times my day does not go as planned.
In the midst of these types of situations (and more) there is 1 household chore I try to do every day.

Every day I try to do 1 load of laundry.
Each morning I start a load of laundry while my kids are eating breakfast, and we’re all getting ready for the day. Later that morning I move the laundry to the dryer, and I fold it then (or certainly by the end of the day).
Why?
I try to do 1 load of laundry every day for 2 main reasons:
- It’s a good way to stay on top of the laundry situation. And we all know laundry is definitely a situation!
- If I get to the end of the day and have accomplished no other household task, I can feel good about having at least completed this 1 thing!
Maybe number 2 is a little bit of a mental game I play with myself, but I truly like knowing that even if my day “falls apart”, I did a load of laundry.
More Thoughts on Laundry
- Everyone has to find their own groove. I like to share my tips and ideas, and I also like reading about other laundry routines. Ultimately, we have to do what works for our families.
- Listening to a podcast, audio book or music is a great way to pass the time while folding laundry.
- These mesh bags are my favorite things to use on delicates and “hand wash only” items. In fact, I wrote a post about them. (Yesterday, we washed my daughter’s Duplo legos in them.)
- Drying racks come in handy, too. Because we heat our home with a wood stove our clothes dry quite quickly on our drying rack!
Yes, laundry is never-ending, but doing a load a day brings some sanity and satisfaction to my life.
What about you? What is the 1 household chore you try to do every day?
Until next time,

Same! If I can get the washing machine and dishwasher going at the same time I feel like supermom! ?
Both at the same time= ROCKSTAR!!
I’m going to try this one! I could even start it before I leave for the gym and put it in the dryer before I leave for school. I would do anything to not have to stare down that massive pile of laundry every Saturday morning!!
A load a day keeps the pile away…sort of!
What a great goal. I know I’m having a good day when both my washer and dryer are going at the same time. Now I need those days to happen more often!
The simultaneous sound of the washer and dryer….beautiful!! 🙂
I need to try this! I am always behind on laundry!
One of those never ending tasks, Tineke! Maybe this idea will work for you!
I don’t do laundry every day but sometimes I definitely feel like I should, rather than doing multiple loads on multiple days!
You definitely have to find what works for you and your family, Dara! 🙂
This is so true! I find that when I do at least one load of laundry a day, it cuts down on the overall load of housework, plus it just feels so good to be able to mark one thing off of the list — even if it is the only thing!
One thing is some thing!!
Oh i need to do this. You are so much more organized than I am. Do you want to do my household chores. xx
Why not, Anna? I’ll be right over. 😉
I used to be a laundry once a week person, but the more kids I have, the more I’m spreading out the chore. Otherwise, it’s too overwhelming all on one day and it NEVER gets folded. Good tip!
Yes, the bigger the family, the more it seems that one day just isn’t enough!
When you have more than a handful of kids….the laundry room monster is a room you wanna stay very very very far away from. I try my best to limit my time.lol I hate laundry.
The monster is real!!
Oh, Laundry how I dislike laundry. This is a great one to do every day. I just got caught up and I am trying to stay on top of it. Dishes are my everyday chore I have to do or else they will just get stacked up.
Laundry & dishes…never-ending!
Dishes is a good one to stay on top of, Lyndsey!
See, I’m the total opposite! I do all my laundry on one (ok, lets be real 2) days. Fridays are my laundry day. I have other chores that I do everyday. One thing I am really trying to do is to have a clean sink before I go to bed.
I think you definitely have to find the system that works for you. One laundry day works for lots of people, like you! If it’s working, keep doing it!
I am pretty good with laundry, right up to the point where I need to put it away. Then I stall. I don’t know what it is, I just hate doing that part. I don’t even mind folding it, but it sits in baskets until it becomes a crisis.
I don’t even have a basket…mine likes to hang out on a chair in our living room. 🙂
I think I need to start doing laundry once a day instead of letting it pile up and doing it once a week. I find it strangely calming, so I bet it would help my mood too.
The pile can definitely be overwhelming, Krysten.
What a great goal. Laundry is always on my to do list.
Thanks, Stephanie!
Yes! For me, I try to do at least one load of laundry and the dishes daily. Those are the two chores that will really bite you in the behind if you don’t.
Yes, dishes are important to me too. 🙂 Both dishes and laundry quickly pile up; better to knock them out while you can!
Laundry can become SO overwhelming if you don’t keep up with it. I love the idea of getting at least one load done a day.
I do it first thing in the morning, and it is done before I know it!
Yes yes and yes!!! When I’m home I try and do the same. I travel often and the worst is coming home and having to do SO much all at once… it’s so much easier and more maintainable to just throw one in each day. Great tip!

The post-trip pile…no fun!!
I only do laundry once a week – and it stares me down until I finally put it away 2 days after it’s washed :/
The struggle is real.
I try to go to bed each night with the kitchen clean. Its a great feeling to get up in the morning to a clean kitchen.
A clean kitchen in the morning is the best, Ashley!!
Yes! I try do one load of laundry a day too. Otherwise I’m drowning in it.
The sea of laundry!!!
